Meet Caitlin, one of my all time fave besties. We’ve been friends since our freshmen year at Whitman College, and have watched each other grow and evolve from crazy-party-girls-extraordinaire who loved keggers, house parties, frat boys and townies, to responsible-mature-well-respectable-ladies who love classy things like wine and cheese and anthropologie and our husbands. :) Don’t worry though – when we get together, a pitcher of PBR (Pabst Blue Ribbon, the classiest of classy beers) is not too far away, and stories of our wild college days are always reminisced (much to the amusement of our husbands).
That’s the thing about besties: you can live half a world away, and still reunite once a year and truly treasure every minute spent. I treasured every second of my shoot with Caitlin and her wonderful husband Randall while in Seattle recently. It was not only special because I love them both so much, but because it was on their last day of living in Seattle before they embarked on their new adventure together: a move to Los Angeles, where Mr Randall is enrolling in medical school. Yes, that’s right: it’s DR Randy from now on!! :)
C + R: I love you both and miss you terribly. Hope the drive down was scenic and peaceful, and I can’t wait to hear all about your adventures as Californians! Don’t get too Valley on me now! :) xoxo

I often think about how different life would be had I met Clinton in high school: he with his nerdy economics text books, me with my equally nerdy school president folders. He’d ask me, “Hey how’s it going?” and I’d nervously respond with a shaky, “Oh you too!” Yep. I’m pretty certain if we met in high school we wouldn’t be together. It’s a good thing we met after all the awkwardness, in a teeny tiny village in Japan, where the only thing awkward was trying to convince the local villagers that in spite of me looking like one of them, no, I could not speak Japanese. And not being able to speak Japanese did not mean I had “special needs”…
I digress. I write of young love and specifically, young high school love as this is where my beautiful couple Katie + Morgan met. Adorable, no? (If I had looked like Katie in high school and Clinton looked like Morgan, we soooo would have been high school sweethearts too!) Theirs is a love story as wholesome and dreamy as one can get: Morgan is a drummer in a band; Katie is a creative vintage queen. Together they are a magical couple whose young love inspires this old heart! :)
Please note all the details Katie carefully planned… That desk you see here? An actual classroom desk they found and piled into their station wagon to the shoot. Dedication. Other props include paper spinners (made by Katie); a beautifully sewn patched blanket (also made by Katie); an old clock; three outfits; drums; a suitcase; chalkboard; old books; and love. Oh so much love. Needless to say, I had an absolute blast photographing these two beautiful souls, and I cannot wait to photograph their Hunter Valley wedding this November!!!!!

We’ve had quite a week in the Pobke household: bought tickets to go to FIJI; exhibited one of my prints (along with many of my buddies) at the ACT AIPP Epson Awards at Artworks; went to the dentist to get a new mouth guard (I’m a total teeth grinder and my last mouth guard was swallowed up by our cleaner’s vacuum… true story); went to Sydney with the darling He-Pobke, where we ate, wined and dined until our tum tums exploded; and finally, shot one of the most beautiful engagement sessions I’ve ever had the privilege of photographing (quick preview below).
We are super excited about Fiji: neither Clinton nor I have ever been, but it’s a place we’ve always wanted to go. And over the past few weeks, I’ve been stressing about August – the month of Clinton’s 30th birthday. Gulp. What do I get my husband to celebrate the big THREE-OH? I was tempted to buy us tickets to Splendour in the Grass, and nearly peed my pants upon seeing that our faaaavouritest bands ever were headlining! But then I really nearly peed my pants upon seeing the hefty price tag. “Hmmm… Do I spend $900 on music festival tickets or much, much less and buy airfare to someplace exotic?” I decided on the latter and mosied on over to the Virgin Airlines website.
Where. I. Found. Tickets. To. Fiji. For. $199. Booyakasha!! CONTINUE READING TO SEE ALL OUR LOVELY PHOTOS! >
