Siobhan and Pete are high school sweethearts, who traveled the world and became adults and fell even deeper in love and and and. I love being around couples who have been together for so long, through so much, with a long history. They’re comfortable, they’re shy, they finish each others’ thoughts. I am SO looking forward to their Hunter Valley wedding in a few months. :)

It’s official. I’ve turned the heater on in our home for the first time since last winter. It’s getting COLD in Canberra, and even after five years in Australia, I can’t seem to wrap my head around the fact that April/May = cold. “It’s supposed to be getting warm,” says my North American body! :) Oh well. All the more reason to love days like this, where the sun seemed to set for an extra long time, to give us that extra warm golden light. :) Carrie + Dan are getting hitched later this year (when November = summer), and we got one of the awesomest autumn sunsets ever. I think I was warm for all of 12 minutes during this shoot. :)

Congrats, lovebirds! Can’t wait for your summer wedding. It’s going to be so rad. And so sunshiney. :) xoxo

If I had my way, life would be filled with live music. Everywhere I’d go, there’d be a guitarist strumming his strings, or a pianist playing her chords. I’d be at the grocery store, picking the ripest, sweetest fruit, and there’d be a flautist playing lovely music in my ear, helping me along with my selection. Wouldn’t life just be so much more amazing with live music? I like to think so.

I met Jo and Nell on a hot summery Canberra day, and Jo had a guitar. “Surely it’s a prop,” I thought. But it wasn’t. He is a musician and a talented one at that. He strummed “Blackbird” for his gorgeous fiance Nell, while I floated off into a dreamy space where all I saw was beauty and love. It was as if my creative senses came alive whilst listening to Jo’s rendition of the Beatles. It. Was. Bliss.

Needless to say, looking over these images takes me back to that hot afternoon; a beautiful couple in love; a quiet acoustic sound filling the woodsy air. Hope you can feel the sounds through these images too. :)

I thought I was a pretty organised person: detail oriented; lover of all things pretty and beautiful… That is, I DID think of myself that way until I met Alanna. Alanna is the guru of all things organised + all things pretty. No really, she is. When she emailed me a lengthy letter of all the details surrounding her engagement shoot, I was a bit flabbergasted: “Surely there is not anyone MORE organised than me?” I thought to myself. :) But alas, there was, in the form of lovely Alanna.

It was equally amazing to meet her husband-to-be, Tim: a wonderfully kindred soul to dear Alanna, a patient man who wants everything for the girl of his dreams. The shoot was impeccably planned, with the most kind hearted people a girl could ever ask for. Alanna + Tim: your souls are meant to be together and it was such a pleasure and honour to capture your love story in the Barossa Valley. Thank you for trusting me to capture all of the beautiful little details. :) And I can’t wait to shoot your wedding in April!

A Farm Kinda Love (Canberra Engagement Photographer)

Oh my. I don’t think I’ve had a hiatus from blogging this long since… Well, ever! My excuse is a really good one. Okay, there are actually two excuses. The first excuse is that I was fortunate enough to host Sarah Rhoads Photographers’ VOICE Workshop here in Canberra! Everything was absolutely perfect… words can’t really describe how fabulous the Rhoadsies are. Really truly. The icing on the cake was having one of my fave photogs (and new besties!) Samm Blake fly over from Perth to guest speak to the 17 attendees who came from all over the world to little ol’ Canberra. It was just the best time. I learned so much; was so incredibly inspired; met so many amazing new friends; and just had boundless energy. Thanks to the workshop, I have a new direction I’d like to take my business… but more on that later. :)

The second excuse from my hiatus has been a super duper awesomely creative project I’ve been working on with a super duper fabulously creative awesome lady. Details shall be revealed soon but some hints include: Raggedy Ann + Andy; balloons; a bicycle; a zebra; happiness + joy; children; and fields. Are you intrigued? I hope so. :) (And if you follow me on Twitter, you may have had some extra hints last week!)

As a result of my blogging hiatus, I have TWO awesome posts planned and ready to go. Feast your eyes on this gorgeous couple, who are getting married very soon! We scheduled Nelson + Tiara’s engagement session at a beautiful farm here in Canberra (thanks for traveling from Sydney, lovebirds!). The property belongs to a friend of a friend (who’s now my friend!) and she graciously let us roam the gorgeous farm all the live long day! There was a baby lamb. And we fed her milk. (I KNOW!!! CUTERS!!) And there was a pond, so naturally I requested Nelson + Tiara to get into the paddle boat thingy. :) And grass and trees and lovely shrubs and fruit and mountains and cows and gorgeous nature everywhere. I was in heaven. Hope you are in heaven too. :) (PS special thanks to Thea [my most awesomest intern ever] and my new friend Gemma. You girls rock!! Thanks so much for your assistance at the shoot!)

Belle was the girl next door. Nick was in love and determined to win her over. So one day, he mustered enough courage to knock on her door. And asked if she had a board game (Connect Four). The rest, as you say, is history. :)

Every couple has a story. You know, the how-we-met story. And every single time I ask my couples how they met, things the other person didn’t realise always comes out. “No, I liked you first!” or “I was too nervous to ask you out!” These new confessions make me smile. I suppose it’s part of why I love photographing couples in love so much. Their love is still relatively new, and they look at each other with such radiating joy that it’s incredibly difficult not to feel overwhelmed by this thing called love. Lana + Frank’s engagement session was no different. There were new confessions, and there was much laughter whilst they told me their story. And I’m so excited that I get to photograph what will be a beautiful wedding in just a few short months. :) Lovebirds, hope you had as much as I did. Love you both and see you soon! :)

Love Is In The Air (Canberra Engagement Photographer)

Love is patient, love is kind. Love is a number of glorious things, and it grabs you from your head to your toe, whether you expect it to or not. And this is partly why I love my job so much: I am constantly reminded of love in all its stages, and I come home from a shoot beaming with more love for my amazing husband than when I left for said shoot. :)

In my (limited) experience, I’ve noticed a few consistencies about my couples. Newly engaged couples come to a session bursting at the seams. Kinda like puppy love but I know it’s way more sophisticated than that. It’s a unique kind of love. Their hearts palpitate, they look at each other with excitement and joy, they laugh like school children when asked to tell their engagement story. And time and time again, my heart fills with happiness after shooting their excitement and joy.

Caleb and Grace, I am so privileged to have had the chance to capture your betrothed, excited love. Thank you for allowing me to spend an afternoon with you two to learn about you, document you, and celebrate your love. :) Hope you love these. :) (And PS a thousand apologies for unintentionally setting your balloon free. But I like to think of it as a message and symbol from me to you: your love soars to the skies like the balloon did!) :)
